According to documents filed recently with Westport's Architectural Review Board, show an Amazon Fresh sign and store space, indicating the much-hyped store will open at the Post Plaza, located on Post Road East in Westport.
The documents and rendering presented to the town show a green-and-white Amazon Fresh logo, and the plans indicate that Amazon is the company's client.
No one at the meeting mentioned the actual name of Amazon Fresh.
Rumors have swirled for a while about the possible opening of an Amazon Fresh in the county including one possibly opening in Ridgefield.
Amazon, which has Amazon Fresh stores in California and Illinois, is always super-secret about upcoming locations. But according to Bloomberg News, the company has at least 28 new stores planned.
Amazon Fresh seems to be aiming for upscale shoppers, much like its sister stores Whole Foods with polished concrete floors and an industrial vibe.
The stores also have up-to-the-minute technology, including digital price tags and smart "Dash" shopping carts that add up purchases as customers shop.
But, Amazon Fresh also says they are a mainstream grocery with products that land somewhere between Trader Joe's and larger supermarkets.
For now, shoppers will have to wait and watch for that Amazon Fresh sign to begin glowing green.
A call to the applicant and Amazon Fresh were not immediately returned.
